My name is Sandy Gilbert and I am the Patient Outreach Director at the Cooley's Anemia Foundation (CAF). Each year, CAF sponsors a Patient-Family Conference which includes presentations by physicians and thalassemia patients, as well as workshops and social activities. This year's conference will take place in San Diego, CA from July 8-10th. There is no cost to patients or family members to attend this conference. The only associated costs are travel and hotel costs.

We have just mailed a copy of our conference brochure - which includes a detailed Conference Agenda - to your office. Please feel free to share this information with your patients, and with any of your colleagues who might find it useful.

If any of your patients would like to attend the conference but find the travel costs to be prohibitive, they can contact Eileen Scott in our office to see if we might be able to provide some funding to help defray the costs of their trip. If any of your patients are hesitant to attend the conference because English is not their first language, we may be able to provide translation services during the presentations so that they have full access to the material.
